Apple AirPods 4 (2024): Release Date, New Features & Leaks

Apple is reportedly gearing up for the mass production of its next-generation AirPods, with a potential launch targeted for September 2024. This information comes from industry insider Mark Gurman, who shared the details in a recent Bloomberg report.

Gurman suggests that Apple plans to release two distinct models this year, effectively replacing both the second and third-generation AirPods. These new models are currently codenamed B768(E) and B768(M), with the "E" potentially signifying "entry-level" and "M" indicating a "mid-tier" offering.

Both models are expected to receive a design refresh, prioritizing a more comfortable and secure fit. Additionally, Gurman's report suggests that the mid-tier variant might boast Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology, a feature currently exclusive to the AirPods Pro. This would potentially enhance the audio experience by significantly reducing unwanted ambient noise.

The inclusion of a potential Find My speaker within the charging case for the mid-tier model is also mentioned. This functionality would integrate seamlessly with Apple's Find My network, allowing users to locate misplaced AirPods with greater ease.

Mass production commencing in May 2024 aligns with Apple's typical product launch cycle, suggesting a September release timeframe for these next-generation AirPods. Gurman further suggests that the launch of the next-generation AirPods Pro is expected for sometime in 2025, potentially incorporating low-resolution camera technology.

This strategic move of releasing two distinct AirPods models caters to a wider audience. The entry-level variant might offer a more affordable price point, while the mid-tier option could attract users seeking advanced features like ANC.

The official specifications, pricing details, and confirmed launch date are still awaited from Apple. However, Gurman's report provides valuable insights into the potential features and timeline for Apple's next-generation AirPods lineup.
